Tipping conventions vary by country and service type. In the United States, 15–20% is standard for sit-down restaurants. Counter service, takeout, and delivery each have different norms. When dining in a group, check whether gratuity is already included in the bill (common for parties of 6+).
Tip Amount = Bill × (Tip % / 100) | Total = Bill + Tip | Per Person = Total / Number of PeopleA $120 dinner for 4 people with an 18% tip adds $21.60, making the total $141.60. Split evenly, each person owes $35.40. If service was exceptional, 20–25% is appropriate and adds $4–$9 per person.
Many restaurants automatically add 18–20% gratuity for large parties. Always review your bill before adding an additional tip. If the bill shows 'service charge' or 'gratuity,' it has already been calculated — adding another tip would double-tip.
Tip is calculated as billAmount × (tipPercent / 100). The total is billAmount + tipAmount. Per-person amounts divide tip and total by numPeople (minimum 1).
